I know I’ve called this the “Summer of the Salad,” but I think it’s also going to be the “Summer of the Giveaway!”  I’ve got so many great foods to share with you this summer, starting with today’s post.

The title of my post is just a wee bit misleading today–it’s actually pronounced “LYE-VE” as in “a-live,” not as in “we LIVE in a material world. . . “. In fact, I nabbed that little wordplay from Jennifer Italiano herself, owner of Live Food Bar in Toronto; Jennifer presented some recipes at the Waldorf School back in the early 2000′s.  Back then, in the middle of holistic nutrition school and a love affair with raw foods, I fell hard for her Bittersweet Salad (which I reproduced here) and have been an enthusiastic follower of her career trajectory ever since.

Fairly quickly, the one-person operation in a small storefront expanded to a full-service restaurant and bar, with packaged raw foods to follow. Nowadays, Live Organic Raw products can be found in pretty much all health food stores across the GTA–and they’ll ship anywhere via orders online (see special intro discount, below!).

I’m such a huge fan of her food and products that I regularly gift them to blogger friends when we meet up.  I brought some to New York with me a couple of years ago, and toted a bunch to Chicago when I was there a couple of months ago for Nourished (I kept some for myself why traveling, of course!).  I love their stuff SO much, in fact, that I took the initiative and contacted them it see if they were interested in a review/giveaway post, because I wanted to share their food with you that much.

For those of you who are curious about raw foods, or just want to try some delicious, healthy, grain-free and vegan treats, this giveaway is for you! These products use 99% raw organic ingredients, and are made by hand.  They are of the highest quality and flavor–and, as the HH and I can attest–once you’ve tried them, it’s tough to go for anything else next time you want a snack!

Walnut Raisin Cacao Nib Chunk Cookies

I do love me a good, guilt-free indulgence.  While I had to nibble on a corner of one of these (they contain raisins), the HH was happy to have them to himself, remarking that they tasted like a less-sweet oatmeal cookie.

Spicy Nori Crackers

You already know I’m a huge fan of this crispy, flavorful crackers with the nori-backing. In fact, I loved them so much that I had to create my own knock-off version! (photo is mine–we polished them off too quickly to snap a pic!).

Sundried Tomato and Garden Crackers

I combined these veggie-rich crackers with a dollop of mock tuna salad for a full meal of veggies and protein. These are also perfect to take along.

Chipotle Kale Chips

Who hasn’t heard of kale chips these days? These crispy, crunchy, totally addictive little morsels are covered in a slightly spicy chipotle coating that you can’t resist (we kind of devoured these too quickly for a photo, too. *Hangs head sheepishly*).

Chocolate Granola

With a sprouted buckwheat base, this granola satisfied my chocolate craving and supplied a filling breakfast–at the same time!


Banana Goji Brittle Cookies

More like a candy than a cookie, these treats provided a crisp, sweet snack.
